- Book stay and transport first
Costs vary widely with the season and the date, so use this guide as a planning method rather than a quote. The most useful habit is to split the trip into five parts and decide your limit for each.
The five parts of a Kumbh budget
- Travel to Nashik: train, bus, car or flight, for the whole group.
- Stay: usually the biggest and most variable cost.
- Food: simple local meals are inexpensive; restaurants cost more.
- Local transport: autos, taxis and buses between the ghats and temples.
- Extras: offerings, shopping, tips and emergencies.
Where prices jump
During the main bathing days hotel rates can multiply, so booking early or choosing a dharamshala often saves the most. Taxis also charge more on restricted days.
Ways to save
- Visit a few days before or after the main dates.
- Share a taxi for the Trimbak day trip.
- Eat local thalis and snacks rather than hotel meals.
- Keep 10–15% of your budget in cash for contingencies.
