Nashik has a distinctive food culture, and you can taste its essentials in a single day if you plan well. This trail moves from a fiery breakfast to a sweet finish.
Breakfast: misal pav
Begin with misal, the spicy sprouted-bean curry topped with farsan and served with pav. Ask for less spicy if you are new to Nashik heat.
Mid-morning: a light snack
Try kothimbir vadi, a crisp coriander fritter, or sabudana khichdi at a snack counter.
Lunch: Maharashtrian thali
Order a thali with bhakri, varan, a vegetable, rice and sol kadhi, a cooling kokum and coconut drink.
Afternoon: fruit
If the season is right, taste fresh Nashik grapes, which the region is known for.
Evening: vada pav and chai
Walk along the ghats for vada pav and masala chai.
Finish: shrikhand
End with a bowl of shrikhand, a creamy sweetened curd flavoured with saffron or cardamom.
