Naro Shankar Temple
An 18th-century Shiva temple on the Godavari, known for its large bell and fort-like stone walls.
Naro Shankar temple was built by Sardar Naro Appaji Khanderao, a Peshwa-era general, after he defeated the Portuguese at Vasai. The famous bell was cast from metal taken from Portuguese church bells. The stone courtyard has a deep water tank and, on festival days, hundreds of oil lamps. It sits close to Ramkund, so it combines easily with a Panchavati walk.
