Kushavarta Kund

The sacred stone tank at Trimbak where the Kumbh bath takes place.

Kushavarta is a stone tank near the Trimbakeshwar temple. Tradition says the Godavari, after coming down from Brahmagiri, was held here by the sage Gautama using kusha grass, and so the tank got its name.

During the Simhastha, the Shaiva akhadas take their Amrit Snan here, and pilgrims bathe in the same water.
