The 13 Akharas of Kumbh
Monastic orders of sadhus who lead the Kumbh processions, grouped into Shaiva, Vaishnava and Udasin traditions.
Akharas are orders of ascetics, each with its own deity, traditions and leadership. The Shaiva, Vaishnava and Udasin groups are traditionally recognised, and each takes part in the Amrit Snan according to precedence. Visitors should observe respectfully: ask before photographing, do not touch sadhus or their belongings, and keep a courteous distance from processions.
