Ramkund

The sacred bathing tank on the Godavari, the centre of the Nashik Kumbh.

Ramkund is a rectangular stone tank in the Godavari at Panchavati. It is believed that Lord Rama bathed here during his exile, and that a drop of amrit fell at this spot. It is the main bathing place of the Nashik Kumbh, and the Vaishnava akhadas take their Amrit Snan here.

Pilgrims also immerse the ashes of departed family members here. The area is lined with small temples, shops and old wada houses.

Tip: in the evening the ghats are quieter and the Godavari aarti is a beautiful sight.
